Fitzgerald Avenue Trees

Sir, —Whether or not it was necessary to remove all of the willow trees between Fitzgerald avenue and bridge and Heywood terrace I am not qualified to judge; but, having viewed the destruction there today, one wonders just how far the planners of progress will go. Could the residents of this area have some assurance from the authority concerned that the avenue trees between Heywood terrace and Bealey avenue will be preserved in their present formation. — Yours etc., RATEPAYER, NORTH FITZGERALD AVENUE. August 20, 1964. [The City Enginer (Mr P. G. Scoular) replies: “When the road works are a little further advanced, it will be clear to the correspondent why the willows have been removed. I am not aware of any proposals to remove any more trees in this locality.’’]
