POOL MAY ERUPT
Level Up Suddenly (N.Z. Press Association) ROTORUA, Aug. 27. The Rachel Pool, which supplies thermal water to the Ward Baths, Rotorua, has sprung into new life and may erupt Boiling water is escaping through the wall that surrounds the pool at the rate of about 1000 gallons an hour and is flooding nearby lawns and gardens. A Department of Scientific and Industrial Research technical officer (Mr E. F. Lloyd), who inspected the seething pool this morning, said there was “a distinct possibility” it might erupt. Mr Lloyd said he believed the pool was now the . most active it had ever been in the last 80 years. Its water level is about 2ft above the normal high level and close to sft above the normal low.
