HIT BACK FROM 0-1

Indians Net Five Goals (N.Z. Press Association) ROTORUA, Aug. 27. The Indian Olympic hockey team beat the New Zealand President’s XI, 5-2, at Rotorua today. India led, 3-2, at half-time, after being down 1-0. The Indians appeared a little bothered with the ground in the first spell. A sticky patch on one side of the field and bumps in other spots made play difficult at times. In the first spell, the President's XI played vigorously and was not too far behind the tourists when the Indian defence was found lacking. The right-wing, D. Paget, was New Zealand's outstanding player, and the 17-year-old S. Maister, playing at right-half, also had a good game. Joginder Singh (insideright) was the artist of the Indian side, while in midfield, the captain, Charanjit Singh, controlled play well. The centre-forward, K. Percy, scored both goals for the President’s XI, while Harbinder Singh, Haripal Kaushik, Bandu Patil (2) and Mohinder Lal netted for India.
