NUCLEAR TESTS
‘No Doubt’ Of Aust. View (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) CANBERRA, August 26. There could be no doubt about Australia's attitude to nuclear tests in the Pacific, the Minister for External Affairs, (Mr P. M. C. Hasluck) told the House of Representatives yesterday. Mr Hasluck. answering Mr W. G. Hayden, a labour member, said he had no knowledge of a request by the New Zealand Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) for Australian support in a protest against proposed tests in the Pacific by France. Mr Hayden asked if New Zealand had sought support in the United Nations and, if so. why Australia had not given its support. Mr Hasluck said: “We have already announced to the House our opinion on these tests. There need be no question of the attitude of the Australian Government” The Government early this year protested to France about the proposed tests.
