Third Defeat To County
(N Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) SOJTHEND, August 26. Australia suffered its third defeat by a county on the current tour when it lost to Essex by six wickets at Southend yesterday. It was also the third win by an Essex county side—the last one was in 1905. Forced to follow on 207 runs behind, Australia was dismissed for 313 yesterday, leaving Essex to score 107 runs in 145 minutes to win. The task was achieved without much difficulty. For the second time the offspin bowler, P. Phelan, took five wickets in an innings, finishing with a match analysis of 10 for 248.
