FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A deep and complex depression centred west of the North Island is moving southeastwards on to the country. A cold front is advancing from the south-west over eastern parts of the South Island. Forecast: Canterbury.—Moderate to fresh southerlies, occasionally strong in exposed places; mainly overcast, with occasional light rain; temperatures cold. Outlook: light showers. Marlborough.—Moderate to fresh south-easter-lies, strong in exposed places about Cook Strait; overcast, with rain gradually easing late in the day; cool temperatures. Outlook: light showers, mainly about the coast. Nelson, Buller and Westland.—Light to moderate southerly winds; a few light showers at first in the north, otherwise partly cloudy and cool. Outlook: partly cloudy.
