TROTTING New Brighton Trainer Has 10 For Addington

The New Brighton trainer, G. Cameron, will be represented in almost every race at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s national meeting at Addington Raceway later in the month. Cameron has a big team in work at present and most of its members are well forward.

Cameron has nominated 10 horses for the Addington meeting, but one of them, Thunderbolt, will start only on the second night.

Morano Boy is a newcomer to his team. This son of Morano and Trouble will contest the two feature races, the Louisson Handicap and the National Handicap, while he also claims engagements in sprint events at the two meetings.

Morano Boy showed signs of gaining an early win when he followed up bold showings in the qualifying heats with a fourth in the Easter Cup Final at Addintgon in March. There was considerable merit in that placing as he was a good way from the lead for most of the race. Morano Boy looks to have thrived since being trained at New Brighton and he appears to be well forward. He is booked to parade at the Addington trials tomorrow when a better line will be obtained on his prospects later in the month.

Heathmount has rejoined the team after a long spell which followed a broken sesamoid bone. While turned out Heathmount was mated with Goodland and to that horse she left a neat colt. Heathmount was one of the first of the progeny of Garrison Hanover to race in Canterbury. She showed great promise as a five-year-old when she won three races. Her injured leg seems to be quite sound at present, but it remains to be seen how she will fare when she encounters really hard tracks in the summer.

Astralight and Loreto’s Best are two trotters in Cameron’s team. Astralight won twice last season and also recorded several placings. The Light Brigade gelding was a shade disappointing towards the end of the season when his form was a long way from his best. He is still capable of winning in the best company and should pay his way this spring. Loreto’s Best failed in three starts after joining Cameron’s team late in the season. He showed no form last term and will contest intermediate-class events at Addington. Three Wins Maggie Spangler more than paid her way last season when she gained three wins and nine placings from 20 starts. The Meadow Chief five-year-old appears to have recovered fully from the shaking she received in a fall at the Addington Easter meeting. She can both sprint and stay and she should be untroubled to extend her already splendid record for Mr T. McCausland. Solemn, another in the same age group as Maggie Spangler, won twice last season. She is obviously a horse requiring a lot in her favour in her races. She has plenty of speed and stamina and should be capable of further promotion.

Beresford Lady will contest the Four-year-old Stakes on the first day at Addington. She failed in two starts early last season and finished with two wins and two placings from five starts in the winter. The Soangetaha mare has freshened up well since racing at Nelson in June and she should be a good proposition for early spring meetings. Paranova, a place-getter in four of his six races last season, is another newcomer to the team. The Garrison Hanover colt has been entered for the maiden races at Addington and also the Canterbury Stakes on the second night. Paranova is a likely type of young pacer.

Limbala is another entry for the Canterbury Stakes. She failed in one start towards the end of the season. She is a three-year-old filly by Smokey Hanover from Chief Lady.'

Thunderbolt completes the team for Addington. He gained one win and a fairly lengthy string of placings last season. This Smokey Hanover gelding has a fair turn of speed. Black Ancestor, a sister to Maggie Spangler and a winner last season, is also back in work, while a number of unraced horses are in training. They include a foiir-year-old mare by False Step from Rich Girl, a daughter of Gold Bar. Rich Girl is also the dam of Ransome, Young Sister, Idle Rich, Lennel and others. A three-year-old gelding by Smokey Hanover from a winner in Queen Jess is also showing ability.
