PRISONERS’ HELP
Choir Makes Records
(N Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, Aug. 4.
Sixteen Auckland prisoners have made an unusual contribution to the Freedom From Hunger Campaign. They have made a record of four Maori hymns to help raise funds for the campaign. The record, entitled “Bread of Life,” is on sale in 500 record shops throughout New Zealand and already hundreds of copies have been sold.
The men, eight Maoris and eight Europeans, comprise the prison choir which is conducted by the secretary of the Auckland branch of the Prisoners’ Aid and Rehabilitation Society (Mr W. M. Limpus). The choir was formed six years ago to help in church worship each Sunday. “These men deserve congratulations and thanks.” the Rev. J. G. Dunn, national chairman of the Freedom From Hunger Campaign Committee, said tonight.
