Landmark Now Monument
(N.Z.P.A .-Reuter I WINDHOEK (South-west Africa). “Martin Luther” is to be declared a South African historical monument. “Martin Luther” is an old rusted steam tractor brought to South-west Africa at the turn of the century by a German officer, who had more wealth than wisdom, to explore the Namib Desert. The tractor stopped after being driven only a few miles into the desert. It has become a familiar landmark.
“Here I stand, I can go no further,” it seems to say to travellers who pass it a few miles outside Swakopmund.
