Exchange Rates
The value of the pound on overseas exchanges dropped considerably last week. All major European currencies hardened, and the United States and Canadian dollars made further gains. Altered telegraphic transfer exchange rates advised yesterday by the Bank of New South Wales are:— New Zealand on; New. York: buying, 2.7834 dollars (compared with 2.7867 dollars’ on July 13); selling, 2.7519 dollars (2.7552). . Austria: 72.22 schillings (72.35); 70.86 schillings (same). Belgium: 139.40 francs (139.70); 136.30 francs (136.70). Canada: 3.0102 dollars (3.0157); 2.9718 dollars (2.9772). France: 13.72 francs (13.74); 13.45 francs (same). Italy: 1749 lira (1751); 1712 lira (1714). Japan: 1015 yen (1016); 993 yen (994). Netherlands: 10.11 guilders (10.13): 9.90 guilders (9.92). Norway: 20.24 kroner (20.05); 19.61 kroner (19.62). Spain: no buying quote; 164 pesetas (164.20). Sweden: 14.39 kroner (14.42); 14.10 kroner (14.11).
