VEHICLE TESTS

Increased Fee Wanted

The Government will be asked by the Christchurch City Council for an increase in the fee for warrants of fitness. The finance committee told the council last evening that a request had been made recently for some assistance for the traffic engineer, and the opinion had been expressed that some of the additional expenditure should be met by an increase in the warrants fee. The council’s two vehicletesting stations ran at a loss of £9255 last year, without taking depreciation of machinery or administrative costs into consideration.

Cr. H. P. Smith, chairman of the committee, was asked to prepare a case for submission to the Government.
