DIABETES IN WEST
High Estimate Of Incidence (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, July 20. Ten per cent of the population in affluent Western societies may need advice about diabetes, said Professor W. J. H. Butterfield, professor of medicine at Guy’s Hospital Medical School. He was speaking at a press conference in connexion with a new technique, announced today, for measuring the amount of sugar in the blood.
The manufacturers claim it will speed iip the detection of hidden diabetes.
The product, which enables the test to be made in a minute on blood pricked from a finger, has been developed by an international research team of the Ames Company division of Miles Laboratories and will be made at Bridgend, Glamorgan.
The cost for each test will be Is 2d.
