The British High Commission told for the first time the full story of his kidnapping. A High Commission spokesman' said he was pulled from his car by three men, ordered about at pistol point, hit in the stomach and thrown to the ground. He was hit on the head with a pistol butt, handcuffed and manhandled into a' garage nearby. There he was gagged, blindfolded and his feet tied with cloth. After two hours a man, apparently the leader of the irregulars, arrived and threatened Major Phillips with a pistol. He removed the handcuffs, but only to handpuff the major’s hands behind his back, and tied his legs with rope, the statement said. Still blindfolded, he was driven to a house where his head wounds were treated. Then he was closely questioned by two interrogators about his job, acquaintances and business in the quarter. He was left on a couch, his hands handcuffed behind his back, for the rest of the night.
