ON-COURSE DOUBLE
Encouragement To Crowd The decision to run an oncourse double at Riccarton on the second and third days of the Grand National meeting was welcomed by Mr R. A. Young at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Jockev Club yesterday. The double would encourage patrons to go to Riccarton earlier than in the past when many did not bother to go until the second or third race, he said.
The chairman (Mr G. H. Grigg) said the decision to run an on-course double was an experiment “If the
innovation proves popular and it is shown that two daily doubles can be operated satisfactorily without involving the club in any great . capital expenditure in extending the existing facilities, no doubt it will be continued at other meetings,” he said.
