CHATHAMS FLIGHT

M.P. Visits Islands (N.Z. Press Association) CHATHAM ISLANDS, June 30. A special flight was made by a Civil Aviation Administration Dakota aircraft to the Hapupu airstrip to calibrate navigational aids today. Mr N. E. Kirk, member of Parliament for Lyttelton, whose electorate embraces the Chathams, was a passenger.

A number of residents made the long overland journey from Waitangi to Hapupu by tractors and trailers to meet Mr Kirk.

Mr Kirk met the County Chairman, the Resident Commissioner, the County Clerk and a number of councillors, and discussed various local problems, particularly those concerning roading provisions, including backblock access.

The aircraft dropped and picked up mail, and later returned to Wellington.
