AUTOMATIC BETTING

Slot-Machines Coming

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, June 30. Automatic slot-machines i that take bets will soon be operating in factories throughout Britain, the “Daily Herald” reports. A new robot bookie, “Honest Robert,” has been designed to collect punters* betting slips and money. It records the time of bets automatically and issues receipts. Winnings are paid out later manually by the bookie who owns the robot. The makers are asking factories'to install the robots in canteens and on factory floors alongside cigarette and soft drink machines. They claim the machines will help boost productivity because they do away with the need for runners—men employed by bookies to collect bets from workers.
