Watsons Road

Sir,—l read that the Waif mairi County Council is going to subscribe to the town hall fund. If it has the money to Subscribe, to such a venture, why not, instead, do something to iihprove Watsons road, which is in the county? This road is approximately 54ft wide but it has some 12ft of sealed road in the middle and has no footpaths. - As the grass is too long on each side of the sealed portion, children uid. other pedestrians have to walk on the sealed portion. There have been several narrow escapes already. As heavy fogs occur at;this time of year, it is hard f ~ a motorist to see the road, let alone pedestrians walking on it.—Yours, etc., P. R. L. HUGHES. June 22. 1964.

[The chairman of the Waimairi County Council (Cr. J. L Colligan) said: “Watsons road is in the rural -area of the county and has only 10 houses in its length of half a a mile. The road is Quite adequate for the few vehicles which use the road and there are many other areas inside the urban fence more deserving of footpaths. Footpaths are being constructed progressively throughout the county and this financial year over one mile of new footpaths will be formed in the Harewood riding. It is of interest to note from the council's records that Mr Hughes has owned his property in Watsons road only since the beginning of June, 1964.”]
