Shooter Hurt In Fall Over Bluff
A young man was seriously injured when he fell over a bluff while thar shooting in the Murchison Valley, near the Tasman Glacier, yesterday afternoon.
He is Andrew Flower, aged 22, a hotel trainee at the Hermitage.' , Tis home address is 193 Deans avenue, Christchurch.
The rescue party’ carried Mr Flower out on a stretcher across the Tasman Glacier to the Ball Hut road. An ambulance with a doctor from Fairlie met the party and set out from the Hermitage at 11.45 p.m. for the Timaru Hospital.
Mr Flower had both wrists broken, a back injury and his head and face were cut and bruised. He was conscious and his condition fair The ambulance was expected to reach Timaru about 3.30 a.m.
His companion, Mr R. Cowan, after making him as comfortable as possible, went to the Ball Hut and informed the Hermitage byradio of the accident. A rescue party reached the injured man about 7.30 p.m. First word of the accident
was received at the Hermitage about 4.15 p.m. The rescue party, in charge of a National Park Board ranger. Mr P. F. Boswell, set out from the Hermitage about 4.30 p.m. The accident happened about 2.30 p.m. Mr Flower and Mr Cowan had sighted a thar and split up to stalk and get a shot at it. Shortly after Wards, Mr Cowan heard cries for help. He found that Mr Flower had slipped on ice and fallen down a steep slope.
