STATE LOTTERY INCREASE
The Baptist Women’s League of Canterbury and Westland has agreed unanimously to protest at the action of the Government in increasing the Golden Kiwi lottery, thus giving further Incentive to gambling. A motion to this effect was passed at the league’s recent annual meeting.
By increasing the lottery the instincts of greed and covetousness would be encouraged rather. than thrift, careful investment and industry, the motion said.
The league associated itself with the Bishop of Auckland (the Rt. Rev. E. A. Gowihg) in making his protest and commended him on his forthright stand on the matter, a report from the meeting said.
