A suberb 90 by N. O'Neill after the quick loss of three batsmen dominated the Australians* first innings, which was four for 223 at lunch on the second day's play against Northants at Northampton today.

O’Neill was out when he gambled in trying to get his 100 before lunch, and was caught and bowled by legspinner P. Watts after his third-wicket partnership with R. Cowper had been worth 101 runs in 103 minutes. O’Neill had batted for 113 minutes and hit 14 fours.

In the first 45 minutes of play today, the Australians lost the wickets of W. M. Lawry, R. B. Simpson and P R. Burge for the addition of 58 runs.
