ONLY FENDALTON IS UNBEATEN IN TENNIS

Only one team, Fendalton, Is now unbeaten in the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association’s winter inter-dub competition. It leads section II with five points. Opawa I (section I) and Avonside II (section H) were beaten for the first time on Saturday. The points are:—Section I: Opawa I 4, Avonside I 4, Spreydon I 2t, Avonside 111 2, Sumner 1, North Linwood 1, Shirley 0. Section II: Fendalton 5, Avonside II 4, Beckenham 4, Redcliffs 4, Barrington. 2, Opawa II 0, Spreydon II 0, Avonside IV 0. SECTION I Avonside I v. Opawa I

Men’s Doubles.— A. D. Atkinson and Black beat S. F. Clarke and Melllsh, 6-4, 6-5. Women’s Doubles.—Mrs C. Atkinson and Miss A. Woods beat Mesdames Jackson and Boatwood, 6-4. 6-5. Mixed Doubles.—Atkinson and Mrs Atkinson lost to Clarke and Mrs Boatwood, 8-9; beat Mellish and Mrs Jackson, 9-8. Black and Miss Woods lost to Clarke and Mrs Boatwood, 4-9; lost to Mellish and Mrs Jackson, 6-9. Avonside I won by 5 matches to 3.

Avonside 111 v. North Linwood Men’s Doubles.—D. Macdonald and Knight lost to R. Murphy and K. Innes, 3-6, 6-4, 0-6. Women’s Doubles.—Mrs Macdonald and Miss Peters beat Misses J. Bell and S. Bruce, 6-1, 6-1. Mixed Doubles. Macdonald and Miss Peters beat Innes and Miss Bell, 9-8; beat Murphy and Miss Bruce, 9-4. Knight and Mrs Macdonald beat Murphy and Miss Bruce, 9-4; lost to Innes and Miss Bell, 7-9.

Avonside 111 won by 4 matches to 2.

Spreydon v. Sumner Men’s Doubles. —R. Payne and W. Franklin beat J. Paton and P. Haworth, 6-1. 6-4.

Women's Doubles.—Misses P. Gleeson and A. Curry lost to Misses N. Baty and B. Kelly, 6-1, 5-6, 5-6.

Mixed Doubles.—Payne and Miss Gleeson beat Haworth and Miss Kelly, 9-4; beat Paton and Miss Baty, 9-6. Franklin and Miss Curry lost to Paton and Miss Baty,’ 7-9; lost to Haworth and Miss Kelly, 6-9.
