1100 Entries Judged At Waimate Poultry Show

The South Island’s leading fanciers were represented at the Waimate Poultry Society’s annual show, and a Christchurch exhibitor, E. W. Tippens, won the award of the society’s blue ribbon for best bird in the show.

Entries totalled 1100, and judges, who praised the general standard maintained, complimented the society and its president (Mr D. I. Johns) and. secretary (Mr P. J. Creba) on attracting entries from such a wide area. The show was brought to a successful conclusion on Saturday night. A feature on Saturday afternoon was a children’s fancy dress pets’ parade. The show judges were:— All poultry except game, Mr B. E. Graham (Amberley); game poultry and game bantams, Mr C. C. Minty (Christchurch); fancy bantams, Mr R. E. Mahan (Oamaru); all pigeons, Mr J. Scoullar (Dunedin); canaries, Mr F. Wedrell .(Timaru); budgerigars, Mr A. Streeter (Timaru); home industries. Miss E. Geddes (Ikawai); farm and garden produce, Mr H. Arthur (Department of Agriculture, Timaru); cats and pets, Mr D. Johns (Ashburton). Championship blue ribbon awards were: New Zealand Championships Female standard Old English Game, all other colours: R. E. Mahan (Oamaru). Black Pekin bantam, male: T. A. Mitchell (Christchurch). Utility Ancona, male: F. S. Creba (Waimate). Yorkshire buff canary, flighted class, C.T.V., female: Mrs J. R. Krause (Timaru). Norwich female yellow canary, flighted class, C.T.V.: Mrs Krause.
