Linwood And University Lead In Senior Rugby
Christchurch paid the penalty for having too many representative players when its depleted senior team lost to Albion to leave Linwood and University A as the leaders of the senior Rugby championship.
University A, another team which was drawn on heavily for players, had no difficulty in beating Marist but Linwood had a hard game against a lively University B team.
Old Boys and Lincoln College improved their chances of gaining a place in the top four teams but New Brighton slipped back when it could onij’ draw with Suburbs.
Except for Albion’s defeat of Christchurch, results were much as expected and the two bottom teams, Merivale and Belfast, suffered their usual decisive defeats. Results were:—
Albion 18, Christchurch 8. University A 16, Marist 6.
Linwood 19, University B 9. New Brighton 12, Suburbs 12. Lincoln College 24, Sydenham 14. Shirley 17, Belfast 0. Old Boys 21, Merivale 3. The points are:
