JUNIOR NAT. CUP TEAM
First Match With Nelson
The strong Christchurch City right-half, A. W. Gowans, will captain Canterbury's national junior cup team funder 18) against Nelson at English Park next Saturday. Gowans has played in all four senior representative matches this season. The team, announced by the sole selector (Mr R. Storer) is:—P. Wallace (Technical); M Thompson (Western), N. McAlpine (H. 5.0.8 A. Gowans (City), G. Griffiths (Shirley B HS.O B). P. Skelton (Western); C. Martin (Nomads), A. Cameron (Technical), K. Smythe (Brighton), K. Pahi (Celtic). F Madrussen (City). ReservesO. Nuttridge (City), C. Jones (Technical), A. Riley (Shamrock).
Smythe and Wallace are the only newcomers to representative under 18 football. Canterbury defeated Nelson. 5-0, in the junior national cup competition last season, won the South Island final, and was beaten by Auckland in the national final. The Nelson team is:—L. L Savage (Waimea Coll.); P. Vela. C. Coad: N. Carson. I. Deane (Nelson Coll.), J. Proudfoot (Suburbs): J. Reid, I Bartlett (Nelson Coll.), M Prince (Suburbs). E. Rush (Thistle). G. Carson (Nelson Coll). Reserves: S. Bowman (Suburbs), J. Appleby (Nelson Coll ).
Proudfoot was a member of the New Zealand under 15 team which recently toured Australia.
