Accord With Rome Sought
(N.Z. Press Assn. ATHENS, June 25. Patriarch Athenagoras, spiritual leader of world orthodoxy, has summoned heads of the Orthodox Churches for a third Pan-Orthodox Congress to begin forming a “dialogue with the Roman Catholic Church.”. A Greek Holy Synod member 'who wished to remain anonymous said the Holy Synod—a 12-member ruling body of the Church—would convene tomorrow to consider Patriarch Athenagoras* written request for the September ■meeting on the island of. Rhodes.
The Church of Greece boycotted last September’s second Pan-Orthodox Congress. The leader of the. Greek Church, Archbishop Chrysostomos, criticised the congress for attempting to etablish contact with the Roman Catholic Church to. further the cause of Christian unity. But Archbishop Chrysostomos now is in favour of sending delegates to this September’s meeting, the Metropolitan said. The second Pan-Orthodox Congress unanimously endorsed .a proposal that the Orthodox Churches suggest to the Roman Catholic Church a dialogue “on equal terms;”
