Vice-Regal Visit To Ashburton
Sir, —Why was it that when the Governor-General visited Ashburton last Monday not one of the uniformed youth groups of the town was represented? I was amazed at this, as the Governor-General is the New Zealand patron of the Boys’ Brigade and quite a few other organisations, Was this an oversight? —Yours, etc., YOUTHFUL ASHBURTONITE. June 19, 1964.
[The Mayor of Ashburton (Mr J. Davidson) replies: “The parading of youth groups was considered by those organising the visit. It was felt, however, after consultation with the school authorities, that It would be inconvenient to separate the children concerned . from their school groups.”]
