COAST TV
Only Three
Licences WELLINGTON, June 25. The member of Parliament for Westland (Mr Blanchfield) and the Minister of Broadcasting (Mr Scott) seem to have gained conflicting impressions of the number of television sets being operated on the West Coast. In a written question addressed to Mr Scott, Mr Blanchfleld asked whether he was aware that many people on the West Coast had television sets, some having been transferred to this district, taking their sets with them, others having built their own sets.
As their only reception was fluke reception from Australia and as New Zealand reception was “a good many years away,” Mr Blanchfleld wanted to know whether policy demanding the same licence fees on these sets as were paid in cities and towns with good reception would be altered. No alteration in licensing policy was considered necessary, said Mr Scott, “in view of the fact that there are only three paid television licences on the whole of the West Coast.”
