Fencer’s Bid Ruled Out
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright,) MELBOURNE, June 25. The bid by New Zealand’s gold medallist fencer, Miss M. A. Coleman, for inclusion in the Australian team for the Tokyo Olympics has failed, the Melbourne “Sun” reported today. Although she had been living in Australia for more than two years, the International Olympic Federation has ruled her ineligible to represent Australia.
Miss Coleman, who won New Zealand’s first gold medal of the 1962 Empire Games at Perth, attempted to gain Australian representation after the New Zealand Fencing Association decided it would not be sending a team to Tokyo. *
