BIRTHS UP A TREE AND AT SCOTT BASE
(New Zealand Presi Association)
INVERCARGILL, June 17. Cats are normally orthodox creatures and it is not often they step out of line. But a 10-year-old Invercargill cat has departed from the normal. ! For the place of confinement of her latest litter, Rinks has chosen a nest 12ft up a macrocarapa tree and her two kittens born a few days ago do not seem to mind. A birth notice has also been announced for five Husky puppies at Scott Base —“To Ruth and Podge, one daughter and four sons. All well. Thanks to Doctors Massam and Lucky and Nurse Horsfield. Naming will take place on Mid-winter day, June 21 (Father’s Day).” This cable mes-sage has been received from the men at Scott Base. The mother, Ruth, was born at Seott Base in September, 1961. Last summer she
was driven 950 miles across Victoria Land. Podge, the father, was born at Wellington Zoo—a direct descendant of the Huskies presented to the zoo at the end of Admiral Byrd's expedition.
