7 GYMNASTS NOMINATED
Surprise Move By Assn.
(tv.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 18. A surprise move was made by the council of the New Zealand Gymnastic Association tonight when it nominated a complete team of women for the Tokyo Olympic Games.
The council unanimously supported the proposal of the three selectors (Mrs Z. Ringinbergs, the Rev. Father F. Green, and Mr R. N. Larkin, of Auckland) that six gymnasts and one reserve should be nominated for the Gaines in the following order:— Miss T. Hill, Miss J. Spencer, Miss P. Gardiner, Miss P. Wheeler (all Auckland), Miss M. Bedgood, Miss H. Hawton (Hamilton), and Miss R. Richards (Auckland), reserve.
New Zealand has not been represented in gymnastics at previous Olympic Games. Misses Hill, Spencer and Bedgood represented New Zealand at the world championships at Prague two years ago.
