Writ Not Yet Issued
Although the Christchurch' City Council had said a month ago that it was issuing a writ to recover from the Waimairi County Council £48,803 for street lighting, no such writ had yet been issued, said the chairman (Mr J. I. Colligan) at a meeting of the county council last evening. ■ “The City ■ Council’s policy of taking M.E.D. funds for general purposes, and then raising additional moneys by way of loan finance to meet the costs of its electrical undertaking appears to me to be a strange and expensive method of financing the undertaking,” said Mr Colligan.
“Such action can only tend to put up the costs of electricity supply. The matter is of concern to this council because county residents are M.E.D. consumers,” he said. The council decided to take up the matter with the Minister of Electricity (Mr Shand).
