‘GUARANTEED PRICE MYTH EXPLODED’
(New Zealand Press Association)
WELLINGTON, June 18.
“It seemed an incredible display of ignorance on the part of the president of the Federation of Labour (Mr T. E. Skinner) to assert that dairy farmers enjoyed guaranteed prices,” said Mr R. Woolerton, chairman of the dairy section of Federated Farmers, today. “The guaranteed price myth was exploded years ago. when the export price of dairy produce declined,” said Mr Woolerton. The industry was then informed that, as in the past, it would never receive more than export realisations. In regard to butter sold on the local market, the industry was merely seeking justice—something which the Federation of Labour has always claimed it is fighting for, he said.
“Mr Skinner asks where does solicitude for the nations’ economy start, and where does eagerness for larger personal incomes end? “Could I remind Mr Skinner that this question applies equally to the group which
he represents. Is Mr Skinner • really convinced that his rei cent actions conform to the i principle which he has laid . down?” asked Mr Woolerton.
