Minister Advises Cabinet‘Keep Fit’

(Neto Zealand Press Association)

WELLINGTON, May 29.

Two “quite significant and worth-while industries” might be started in New Zealand after recent discussions in London between the Deputy Prime Minister (Mr Marshall) and several British industrialists.

On his return home today, Mr Marshall said he had received two firm proposals which could materialise this year “Although not immediately.” He declined to elaborate on the proposals.

Mr Marshall also had talks with the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations (Mr Sandys) and the British Minister for Trade (Mr Heath) while in London. Questioned on the possibility of a resumption in the meat talks between Britain and New Zealand, Mr Marshall said there was no prospect of this until after the British General Election. He had no talks with United States Government leaders during the few days he was in Washington. Lost Weight Two-stone lighter than when he left New Zealand three months ago, Mr Marshall returned to the capital with words of advice for his Cabinet colleagues—“ Keep fit

and keep your weight down.” Mr Marshall, who suffered a heart attack in Teheran in March, said Ministers should see they have enough time from work for recreation and exercise.

“The answer is to keep fit and keep the weight down. That’s what I am going to do and that’s what I hope my colleagues will do,” he said. “No Thought”

Replying to questions about his political future, the Deputy Leader said he had no thoughts of retirement before or after his present term. “I am feeling fit and by next election 1 will be fitter than ever before if I do what my doctor and my wife tell me to do.” Mr Marshall said there was no suggestion that he should relinquish either of the two portfolios he holds—Overseas Trade and Industries and Commerce. “Any change would be a matter for the Prime Minister,” he said.
