MORTARS FIRED

Holyoakes In Saigon (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 29. Mortars were fired at the aircraft carrying the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) and his party as it prepared to land in Saigon. Mrs Holyoake, who accompanied her husband on his recent South-east Asian tour, disclosed this in an address today to the English Speaking Union. It was not a nice experience, she said. Later she toured Saigon with New Zealand’s woman representative there and saw bullet holes in the walls of many buildings. The representative told her: “Everything seems all right but aomething is cooking.”
