Sir, —I have been unfairly treated, not by your closing the matter, but by misprinting what I wrote. You quote me as saying, “The lake can fall to under sea level.” I never used such stupid words and was surprised to see the misprint. Those three words make my letter senseless, and Mr Hay was quick to take advantage of it. I have had 54 years’ association with the lake and possess all the figures since 1901 supplied by the Catchment Board.—Yours, etc., INTERESTED. May 28, 1964. For “mean sea level,” he used the abbreviation “m. 5.1. and so that the letter would be comprehensible to the general reader the full words were interpolated between the lines of the single-spaced typing—not sufficiently clearly, apparently, for our printing department.
