SAFE DRIVER AWARD

3 Replies To 250 Letters Little interest has beenshown by the public for the Safe Driving Award competition this year. The secretary to the Christchurch Metropolitan Road Safety Committee, Mr E. H. Quinn, reported there had only been three replies to the 250 letters out to city firms. Mr R. K. Reddy said the lack of publicity was one reason behind the little interest taken in the awards. . Mr N. Durham said the whole operation was too involved. Mr Quinn said he could not agree. There were only two forms to be completed. Mr Durham replied it was not as simple as that in black and white. Quite a lot of work was involved.

The chairman, Mr N. H. Browne, said he and the secretary would look into the question and report to the next meeting. The meeting agreed to recommend to the Traffic Department of the City Council that bars be erected in front of the cycle exits from Hagley P<irk. Cr. T. D. Flint, the chairman of the traffic department said the council had debated this on four occasions. He thought the subject had died a natural death. There were prominent warnings to cyclists.
