SYMPATHY TO POOR

“Danger Of Loss” There was in growing cities a danger of losing the sympathy that existed in smaller communities towards less fortunate people, the Gover-nor-General, Sir Bernard Fergusson, said at a Christchurch Junior Chamber luncheon yesterday. “As cities grow bigger they should endeavour to maintain the qualities of smaller communities,” he said. “You appear to be doing this in your organisation."

He read out the list of organisations on which the Junior Chamber movement was represented and referred in particular to the Canterbury Mental Health Council. Sir Bernard Fergusson recalled his visits to the Sunnyside and Porirua Mental Hospitals and said he was very pleased to see Junior Chamber representation on the council.
