PRICES RISING AGAIN

There has been a short interval in price rises since many goods went up after the sugar price rise earlier this year, but now another range of increases has been announced.

There will be new prices for oaten goods on June 1 and this takes in a wide range of breakfast foods. Meat canners have also announced price increases, covering sandwich pastes, corned meats,, ox tongues, lamb and peas, and Irish stew. ’Biscuits, anfong them water biscuits, which did not go up in price earliei; this year have now risen 2d a lb. Hops.—Home brewers aftf finding it difficult to buy hops: Most shops in Christchurch have had no supplies for pbme time. Nelson Crop prospects are not good and it Is felt that there is likely to. be a shortage for some time.

Australian Apricots.—Shipments of Australian dried apricots of the • top grade, fancy extra large, are now arriving in New Zealand. However, it is reported that stocks of this grade are running low and it Is possible that not' all orders will be filled. South African Peanuts.—South African peanuts are £3 a ton dearer than last season. The possibility of such a rtse was reported earlier . this year and importers had to place orders subject to prices being announced later. Buyers are still asked to order promptly because their is no indication of the size of the crop. Clothes Peps.—Nqw improved plastic clothes pegs, in packs of 25 selling at about 2s Bd, will be on- the market soon. Just new there is a shortage of wooden pegs. The new pegs are said to be pliable and much better than the plastic pegs on the market several years ago. Honey Pack.—Liquid honey In teddy bear ; shaped plastic squeeze packs, in three different colours, should -be in the shops .soon, selling at 2s lOd for 12 ounces. The plastic-nozzled

pack, easily refillable, should be a hit with the youngsters. Pasta Italiano Several new Croducts are being produced y T. J. Edmonds. Among them are macaroni, vermicelli and spaghetti under the ’’Prlma’’ brand. Packed in 14 ounce packs, the macaroni sells for is 7d and the spaghetti and vermicelli for Is 9d. These new lines will be on the market next month.
