U.K. EXPORT RECORD

Britain’s car manufacturers produced and exported a record number of vehicles in the first quarter of this year, according to figures issued in London by the Board of Trade.

The export total for March alone was a record 65,010 units. The March production figures—average weekly output 35,674—were slightly down on the previous two months but were still above the average for the last quarter of 1963. Output in the first quarter averaged 37,010 units weekly, and the total was just over half a million. In the final quarter of 1963 the weekly average was 33,739 units.

The export record in the first quarter totalled 183,470 units compared with 166,972 in the last three months of 1963, and was an 18 per cent increase on the corresponding period last year. Car production and exports are providing an important stimulus to the general growth of the British economy. *
