Cycling Administrator To Be Life Member
In recognition of 32 years’ service to the sport, Mr W. Pidwell, of Wanganui, is to be nominated as a life member of the New Zealand Amateur Cycling Assotiation at its . annual meeting oh June 5. Mr Pidwell joined the Wanganui Amateur Road and Wanganui Amateur Athletic and Cycling Clubs in 1932 and in 1956 and 1955 respectively, was elected as a life member to both bodies. Mr Pidwell, who attended the inaugural meeting on February 10, 1934, is a foundation member of the West Coast (North Island) Centre. President from 1950 to 1954, he has been the centre referee, starter, local officer and selector.
Until he had to retire last year because of ilLhealth, Mr Pidwell had been vicepresident of the New Zealand association since 1961 and was a national selector from 1951 to 1963. His official, positions have included the post of cycling starter for the Empire Games at Auckland in 1950, and referee and starter for New Zealand championships. Mr Pidwell was national president from 1961 to 1963 and is the immediate pastpresident of the association.
Under a prisoners’ reform system, films on social subjects are now being shown to prisoners in Mecca prison. The idea is to put constructive ideas for the future into the prisoners’ minds.—(Reuter).
