Report
More than 360 children came under the care of constituent members of the Christchurch Children’s Homes Appeal Trust Board in the last year, the board was told at the. annual meeting. Considerable time and* money had been spent on social work among problem families to avoid these families breaking up with the consequent need tor-children to enter a home, the board was told. Where possible ’ children were placed in suitable private foster homes under control of the organisation concerned. Otherwise, they were placed in one of the small faniily units within a children’s home. Each of the three constituent bodies, the Anglican, Methodist, and Presbyterian Children’s Homes, had received £2OOO fpr their work among children in the Christ church district.
The young folk of the Bible classes who helped with a house-to-house appeal, the collectors for the street appeal, and others were thanked for their help. Grants received from the J. R. McKenzie, Sargood, and Hyman Marks Trusts helped, the final result.
The next street appeal will be held on August 7 and a house-to-house appeal on October 3. The Rev. J. S. Vincent was re-elected chairman of the board, and Mr L. G. K. Steven was re-elected treasurer.
