Exhibition To Aid
Bursary Appeal
An exhibition of Antarctic relics, and paintings belonging tb Miss C. Pyrie, was opened at Miss Pyne’s home at 37 Helmores lane on Tuesday.
The exhibition will help the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Antarctic Society to raise funds for an Antarctic bursary for science students at the University of Canterbury. Among the relics are boots and an ice-axe which belonged to Captain Scott, and Sir Douglas Mawson’s own copy of his two-volume work, “The Home of the Blizzard.”

Opening the exhibition, the president of the Canterbury branch, Mr R. J. Stanley, thanked Miss Pyne for making her home and paintings available.
The early Antarctic expeditions have a special significance for Miss Pyne. Captain Alistair Macintosh, leader of the Ross Sea party in Shackleton’s expedition of 1914-17, was her cousin. Miss Pyne has also distinct memories qf Captain Scott, whom she met at Lyttelton when ghe was 11 years old. The exhibition will be open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. until May 30. It will not be open today.
