DEXTER IS CAPTAIN
Selected For Ist Test ■ (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, May 27. E. R. Dexter was appointed captain of the England team for the first test match against Australia at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, on June 4. The official announcement was made yesterday at Lord’s during the M.C.C. versus Australia match. The English side for the first test will be announced on Saturday. - It is obvious from Dexter’s selection that M. J. K. Smith, who led the M.C.C. team, of which Dexter was a member, is likely to lose his test place. Dexter, aged 29, has captained England 25 times and played in 48 tests. He was not available for the recent series in India, where Smith led England ih all five drawn tests.
