WELLINGTON. May 27.
The New Zealand Davis Cup tennis team of L. A. Gerrard and I. S. Crookenden, has. been invited to practise with the Australian team in Mexico City. The offer is of tremendous significance to New Zealand’s preparation for the tie against Mexico on July 17. 18, 19.
“We would be delighted to practise with the Australians,” said Mr F. S. Ramson, chairman of-the management committee of the New Zealand association.
“In a foreign country there is a real problem of getting players to practise with." Mr Harry Hopman, the Australian team manager, had decided that R. N. Hewitt, J. Newcombe and A. Roche will leave Wimbledon immediately they are eliminated and go to Mexico City. New Zealand will do likewise. H Mexico beats New Zealand, Mr Hopman is prepared to invite Gerrard to travel with the Australian team for the rest of the Davis Cup todr.
