Queen’s Flag At Birthday Parade

The Queen’s personal flag, specially designed for use in New Zealand in place of the Royal Standard, will be flown for the first time since the Royal Visit when the Governor-General (Sir Bernard Fergusson) takes the salute at the Queen’s Birthday parade in Christchurch on Monday.

Units of the New Zealand Army, Navy, and Air Force will take part in the parade in Cathedral square, and Sir Bernard Fergusson will inspect the guard of honour and give an address.

The guard of honour, which consists of two officers and 98 men from the depot of the Ist Battalion, New Zealand Infantry Regiment at Burnham, will assemble with the band of the Canterbury Regiment at the King Edward Barracks at 9.40 a.m.

Ten minutes later, preceded by the band, the guard of honour under the command of Captain J. Pearson, will march to Cathedral square by way of Cashel street, Oxford terrace, and Worcester street At 1026 a.m. the Mayor (Mr G. Manning) will arrive in the parade area (between the Cathedral and the Godley Plot). Four minutes later the Governor-General will arrive.

Sir Bernard Fergusson will then meet the Mayor and heads of the armed services, receive the Royal Salute, inspect the guard of honour and the band, and address the assembly. A Royal Salute of 21 guns firing at 10 second intervals will be fired by a troop of the 3rd Field Regiment, Royal New Zealand Artillery. The firing party will be on the river bank in Cambridge
