Vice-Regal Reception
The Victoria League in Canterbury was the host organisation at a reception to; their Excellencies held by the combined leagues at the Horticultural Hall last evening. The president of the Victoria League (Mrs R. B. Neill) received Sir Bernard and Lady Fergusson, assisted by the vice-president (Mr G.i C. C. Sandston), who officially welcomed them. Presented to their Excellencies were the chairman of the committee of the Combined Societies (M- D. E. Ames) and Mrs Ames, the president of the Canterbury branch of the English Speaking Union (Mr H. Wakefield) and Mrs Wakefield, the president of the Canterbury branch of the Navy League (Mr P. D. Hall) and Mrs: Halt the president of the' Canterbury branch of the: Royal Overseas League (Mr! J. K. Collins) and Mrs J. Jj Mulligan. and the president ; of the Canterbury branch of 1 the Royal Commonwealth So- 1 ciety (Mr L. C. C. Spooner):’ and Mrs Spooner. Lady Fergusson wore a - cocktail frock of pearl white ( silk boldly patterned in = green, gold and brown ton- 1 ings with a multi-strand pearl 1 necklace and fur eape-stole. ! Mrs Neill chose a cherry < red fine wool jacket dress, which she wore with a cock- * tail hat of mixed flowers pre- 1 dominantly cherry red. Mrs M.
