LONDON, May 26. A new gramophone record, aimed at babies from one to •six months old, will be in the shoos soon. It is called “Soothing • Sounds for Baby.” and is described by the manufacturers • as “an indispensable aid to

mother during the feeding, teething, play, sleep and fretful periods." It is based on the opinion of child psychologists who say that infants delight in repetitive and monotonous sounds. The record makes. sounds like “thrip bonk peep, thrip bonk peep, thrip bonk peep.” or “ping pang pong, ping pang pong.” It is said to have a soothing effect, similar to the ticking of a loud grandfather clock or the squeak of a : rocking chair. Played low. it ■ sends babies off to sleep: louder, it acts as an. “aural toy.” which fascinates them.
