Crime To ‘Fix’
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright)' . WASHINGTON, May 26.
The Senate today adopted and sent to the White House for signature a bill making it a federal crime to “fix” a sporting event or influence the score. The penaltyi could be a fine of 10,000 dollars or a ■five-year gaol term, or both.
Passage of the bill follows a number of sports scandals in the United States in recent years. One of these involved a number of college basketball players who “shaved” points for big-betting gamblers. Betting on the margin of victory in basketball has been prevalent.
