Spending Own Money
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 26. The people, not the Government, thought up ways of spending public money, the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) said today. Ministers spent half their time saying “no” to people who wanted the Government to extend its activities, he told the Constitutional Society’s convention. “People are schizophrenic. In a minister’s office they waiit the Government to spend money. When they get outside his door, they become taxpayers.”
