£l3m Wool Cheque

Greasy wool sold in Christchurch in the season Just completed was worth £132232,509 6s 2d, according to figures released by the Christchurch Wool brokers’ Association.

It was the centre’s biggest cheque since the 1950-51 boom, when twothirds of the quantity of wool sold in the 1963-64 season was worth £15,738,854 Os Bd. It was more than £2.25m. greater than in. the 1962-63 season.

With greasy wool worth £6,689,649 sold at Timaru, nearly £2om. of wool has been sold at auction in the province in the recent season. Both Dunedin and Invercargill have reported cheques of slightly more

than £l4m., bringing the total value of wool sold at auction in the South Island to between £4Bm. and £49m.

In the recent season 55. 828,8391 b of wool in 170,129 bales was sold for an average of £77 15s 7d a bale or 56.88 d per lb. By weight, the amount of wool sold was down about 6 per cent on the 1962-63 season, when 59,324,9801 b, or 178.759 bales was sold for £10,870,411 Is lid—an average price of £6O 16s 3d a bale and 46.976 d per lb.

In the boom season of 1950-51, 36.802,4891 b Of wool in 116,608 bales was sold at an average of 102.637 d per lb and £134 19s 5d a bale for £15,738,854 0s Bd.
